There I was in 2002, a skilled professional applying for Australian Skilled permanent visa trying to meet the pass mark then.

The thing is, at the time I was struggling to find additional 5 points.

The big problem was that after one year in Immigration's database, the Department of Home Affairs, increased their pass mark. That meant the 5 points that I lack before became 10, which, if after another year, I cannot meet the pass mark, my visa application will be refused. 

I thought it was sensible not to wait for another year and just start to move on. I was ready to throw in the towel but my husband kept on praying about it...

(Note: There had been massive changes in the General Skilled Migration Program since this time)
Then, something amazing happened...
One day while driving to work, I was talking to God about why my husband can't understand that our application already hit the dead end. 

You see, Immigration usually changes their pass mark every two years (and they usually increase). We only have one more year then we will be removed from their database - and there will be  no changes within the year,  not the pass mark, at least. 

God answered my question with another question - "Why, do you only pray for things that are possible to happen?" He told me to "JUST BELIEVE" (that He can bring us to Australia). 

After a month I received a letter from Immigration about a new provisional visa they recently introduced for skilled migrants and they are inviting us to apply for that! The rest is history – we were granted the provisional visa.
(Note: SIR visa is not available now under the current Immigration Law)

Instantly it became crystal clear to me that God can make a pathway through the 'wilderness' (one of my favourite bible verse: Isaiah 43:19). I believe that God has given me a purpose for migrating to Australia.

My plan was to start helping other skilled professionals who already migrated in Australia, who like us have no families - strangers in a strange land.

So, my husband and I started to volunteer for Immigration SA: meeting new arrivals from the airport, orienting them about their new community, buying groceries for their first day and assisting them for another week, if they still need help. 

But we didn’t stop there. 

We volunteered to coordinate our church ministry for new migrants called Welcome to Australia: helping new migrants meet new friends and assimilate in their new country, aside from other practical helps like resume writing, Australian English practice, furniture give-aways and even organizing birthday parties and baby showers for those that do not have family here. We still do this today...

Another Migration Agent told me how she has helped migrants with their visa problems and so I studied to become a Registered Migration Agent. That way, I can understand and use the current legislation in applying for Australian permanent visas rather than relying on the internet or others' experience.
